Bring the lush density of a tropical rainforest floor directly into your home with the sensational Philodendron ‘Congo’ (Green Congo). Unlike classic climbing vines that require moss poles or trellises, this premium self-heading structural hybrid grows cleanly upward and outward from a compact, heavy central rosette. It produces thick, sturdy stems supporting huge, waxy, paddle-shaped leaves that handle low humidity and indoor conditions with remarkable resilience.

Grown and tended by hand by our family team, we ensure your plant receives dedicated quality care from day one. We offer this highly rewarding architectural variety in two distinct growth stages to perfectly fit your personal plant collection goals:

Available Variations

- 2.5″ Rooted Start (with Domed Lid): A healthy, manually selected rooted cutting that arrives in a premium 2.5″ clear container. This variation features a clear dome lid equipped with an adjustable top air vent, creating a perfect high-humidity microclimate to support continuing root development and ease acclimation to your home environment.
- 4″ Established Plant: Arrives fully established and growing vigorously in a 4″ clear plastic nursery pot. This specialized container lets you observe root development and soil moisture at a glance, making it a high-utility favorite for professional and hobbyist collectors alike. Ideal for bright shelves, tabletops, or counter displays.

Key Features

- Massive Paddle Foliage: Heavy-duty, glossy leathery leaves pack a dramatic structural punch with an ultra-rich emerald green color.

Congo Philodendron Care Instructions

The Green Congo is famously tough and easygoing, making it an excellent choice for busy plant parents who still want large-scale jungle volume.

- Sunlight: Thrives best in medium to bright, indirect indoor sunlight. It can tolerate lower light spaces gracefully, though growth will slow. Keep safely out of intense, direct afternoon sun to prevent the thick leaves from bleaching or scorching.
- Watering: Drought-tolerant; allow the top 2 inches of soil mix to dry out completely between waterings. Use your clear pot to visually check the deep root zone; if the lower soil looks damp, hold off.Drench thoroughly when dry and empty any standing tray water.
- Humidity: Wonderfully adaptable! Thrives in normal household humidity, but appreciates an occasional misting or grouping with other plants. For the 2.5″ Rooted Start, keep the top cap partially closed early on, adjusting it wider over two weeks to acclimate.
- Temperature: Maintain a stable indoor temperature range between 65°F and 85°F. Protect completely from cold windowsills, winter drafts, and active air conditioning vents.
- Soil: Requires a highly aerated, loose, chunky potting medium. It grows best when potted or top-dressed in an organic aroid mix, such as our signature Dirtbags Handcrafted Soil Blend enhanced with perlite and orchid bark.

Pet Safety Information

- Toxicity: Toxic to pets. Like all members of the aroid family, Philodendrons contain microscopic insoluble calcium oxalate crystals. If chewed, these can cause oral irritation, burning, drooling, and mild swelling in pets. Because this plant grows upright and doesn’t dangle trailing vines, it is very easy to safely display on high accent tables, stools, or desks out of reach of curious cats and dogs.
